It's no secret that Learning Management Systems (LMS) have been getting a bad rap lately with their lack to keep up with changing needs in business along with the new opportunities offered by newer technologies. With Millennials making up one third of the American workplace, the largest generation at work, there are a lot of shifts happening: workplace culture, employee learning and development, need for career pathing and visibility in to business operations to make impactful decisions. 

Simply put a Learning Management Systems user reads information (or even watches a video) then tests themselves on that information that just read or watched. This type of course driven learning isn't as effective as it use to be. You may be familiar with the stereotype that Millennials crave instant gratification. Employees want engagement, feedback, collaboration and confirmation that they are doing their job right–did I mention everyone learns at different paces with different styles? The traditional Learning Management System is linear, static and is more of a one-size-fits-all system, with little to no collaboration. 

Learning Management System: Did they read the course, did they pass the test, great! Reality: does the employee actually know how to do their job, where's the proof?
